Baths are pretty much my answer to everything. Got sore muscles? Take a bath! Got a fever? Take a bath! Step in poison oak/ivy/sumac? Take a bath! Skin needs extra moisture? Take a bath! During the summer months here in Texas, the sun sucks all the moisture out of my skin and I resort to my favorite fruit punch scented bath bombs to soften my skin. Not only do these bath bombs soothe and hydrate the skin but they make your bath smell like everyone's favorite tropical fruit punch beverage. Who doesn't want to bathe in Hawaiian Fruit Punch?
Easy to DIY and makes great gifts
Bath bombs are one of my favorite bathtime projects that can be tailored to your needs and make wonderful gifts for your friends and family! This recipe is a play on the basic bath bomb recipe, but with coconut milk powder and shea butter added to give the bather softer skin! Both ingredients can be substituted for any milk powder and butter you have on hand!
A note on colorants in bath bombs
I have added mica powder and/or herbs to regular bath bombs in the past and they added a lovely color to the final product, but with these bath bombs, I learned a good lesson with somewhat of an epic fail during the testing process. I had originally wanted to add hibiscus petals and pink mica powder to these bath bombs to give them a pretty pink coloring, and that is what I did with my first batch, not realizing that the coloring would adhere to the fats in a ghastly pink/red ring around my tub. Note to self, if adding fats (i.e. shea butter and coconut milk powder) to your bath bombs, don't add coloring!
Tropical Passion Coconut Milk Bath Bombs
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 citric acid
- 2 Tbsp. coconut milk powder
- 1 Tbsp. shea butter
- 50 drops Plant Therapy's Tropical Passion Essential Oil Blend
- witch hazel, in a spray bottle
DIRECTIONS
- Melt the shea butter in a mason jar placed in a saucepan that has about 1-2 inches of water in it, and heat over medium-low heat.
- While shea butter is melting, wearing gloves, combine baking soda, citric acid, and coconut milk powder in a medium-sized bowl, breaking up any clumps with your fingers.
- Once melted, remove the mason jar from the heat and stir in the essential oils.
- Pour the shea butter/eo mixture into the powder mixture and thoroughly mix in, breaking up small clumps with your gloved hands.
- Using the spray bottle of witch hazel, spray the mixture 2-3 times and continue to mix using your gloved hands until it will pack together into a snowball without crumbling.
- Repeat step 5 if the mixture is still too dry to hold together.
- Pack the mixture into a silicon mold (be sure to push them firmly into the molds), and let it dry overnight before popping them out.
